On 16th September. 1916, 14th Division were withdrawn from the Somme battlefield and moved to Arras where, on 27th September, the 7th Rifle Brigade battalion of 41 Brigade moved into the front line trenches at Wailly where they remained until relieved on 9th October. Compared with what was happening a few miles further south things were relatively quiet on this sector but being in the trenches was always a dangerous occupation and the Battalion Diary recorded that Albert Radley was killed by a bomb (grenade) on 1st October. |
